The Punto de Vista festival consolidates its international prestige and reinforces its professional networks and activities for local talent
04/08/2026

Over a dozen heads of top documentary festivals and bodies, alliances with European networks, recognition by international professional bodies and programmes put local talent in touch with the global industry in Pamplona.

This year once again Pamplona is a strategic location for the meeting of documentary film makers thanks to the forthcoming edition of Punto de Vista, which is celebrating its twentieth anniversary from 20th to 25th April. With its painstaking programming, the festival builds on its work over the years to present a busy few days aimed at forging relations between film-makers, institutions, industry figures and international platforms, opening up to local talent an ecosystem in which exchange and partnership are a core part.

Like this Punto de Vista, set up by the government of Navarre and organised by the public body NICDO, takes a step forward in a model centred on spotlighting Navarre and generating value and returns for the region: as well as showing films that would be hard to see outside a circuit of this kind, the festival works to facilitate strategic professional networking.

Throughout the week, Navarre will be a place where local talent can have access to key interlocutors on the international scene, encouraging close, direct dialogue, spotting opportunities and helping projects to circulate in a sphere —that of experimental documentary film— where achieving visibility and distribution for work is one of the most fragile, difficult processes for the authors involved. In this respect, the festival stands as a gateway to figures who would in many cases be hard to get at for talent outside this framework.

Integration and recognition of key networks in the national and international audiovisual ecosystem

The international reach of Punto de Vista has been strengthened in recent years by its recognition and inclusion in some of the main networks in the sector. The festival recently gained accreditation from FIAPF, the International Federation of Film Producers Associations, the body whose assessment standard for festivals has become a worldwide seal of quality. This accolade certifies its relevance, making it part of a very small group of festivals in Spain to hold this distinction.

Furthermore, following its participation as a guest festival in 2025 within the Doc Alliance network, which brings together seven of the most influential European documentary festivals, it joined the Documentary Association of Europe (DAE) in 2026, thereby strengthening its ties with contemporary European documentary film-making and enabling it to play an active role in debates, initiatives and professional networks across the continent.

This is added to its regular role on the management boards of Federación Pantalla and La Mesta, national platforms that connect festivals, fostering networks between them to promote professionalisation, sector mapping and dialogue with institutions. These organisations will be present at the festival, organising a range of activities.

These milestones are accompanied by renewed recognition in the recent report by the Observatorio de la Cultura, drawn up by professionals and executives from all over Spain, in which it appears once again as one of the highlights of the national cultural scene. The festival holds fifth place among the top ten film festivals in Spain, with the highest-rated subject material in the country, and together with the Museo de Navarra is placed second on the list of cultural assets in Navarre.

International delegation and professional programmes to network talent and markets

This commitment to professional development is reflected in Punto de Vista’s efforts to encourage visits by international programmers and professionals in order to create opportunities for the talent featured in its programme, as well as its partnership with local associations and projects that form part of its activities.

Thanks to the support of the PICE programme run by Acción Cultural Española and the SGAE foundation, the festival has once again managed to attract an important delegation of top international festivals and bodies who will be visiting Punto de Vista. These include Cinespaña Toulouse, Curtas Vila do Conde, Doc’s Kingdom, FIPADOC, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), DocLisboa, Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, Recognition Brussels, BlackStar Film Festival, Courtisane Festival, Sheffield Doc/Fest and International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), as well as the documentary film platform DA Films and Cahiers du cinéma magazine. The agenda for this visit will focus on programming national and local talent in order to boost its visibility, and will include a specific meeting with Navarrese production companies organised by Navarra Film Industry.

The festival's commitment to local professional development also takes the form of schemes run by the associations and projects that play a strong part in the programme through the LAN section. Ideas like the illustrated talk on film-maker Mirentxu Loiarte by CIMA and (H)emen, the Napardocs encounters —Organised with the Navarre producers association— and the presentation of projects included in the Doklab Navarra documentary residency, spaces for work and dialogue tailored to different stages in the creative process, from project development to positioning them on the market.

These platforms will include representatives of key organisations like Movistar Plus+, Majordocs, Agencia Freak and DocLisboa, who will be sharing their experience with local film-makers and production companies, generating a context of practical learning and real connections to encourage greater knowledge and future partnerships for the local industry in the areas of creativity, production and distribution of documentary film.
