This workshop proposes the construction and exploration of two objects, through which we will discover the basic principles of animation. Firstly, we will build a toupie fantoche, one of the first devices created before the invention of cinema. It is a pyramid with four mirrors that allows you to visualise a small animation consisting of four images, which we will draw on a disc. Secondly, we will build a mini multiplane, a structure designed to facilitate the process of creating animations with depth. During the workshop, we will create animations on the mini multiplane using magazines and drawings.

 

All designs were created by Tekno Fantasy, and said collective will supply the materials needed for the workshop.

 

Tekno Fantasy, which came to be in 2023, is a collective space dedicated to experimentation with lights, colours, projections, and other devices. The project has its roots in the Cinema and Technology Working Group, established in 2018, within which new initiatives and lines of research began to be developed that culminated in the creation of Tekno Fantasy. The goal of this open group is to research, reflect, and create collectively, moving between animations and analogue projection systems. With a "tinkering" spirit, the group bases its work on intuition and desire, using the trial and error method. The Tekno Fantasy event has been organised at Tabakalera of San Sebastián since 2024. Thanks to said initiative, the group's projects and works by other collectives and guest artists are shared — always encouraging enjoyment, conversation, and community building around technological and artistic experimentation.
