Models of resonance

In recent years, we have witnessed a steady stream of innovations in the field of AI. In light of a discourse around technological innovation as something autonomous, obviously justified and almost futuristic, it is worth adopting a grounded perspective capable of reflecting on the use of each tool, overlapping them with the context and traditions that spawned them, and not getting trapped in the glare of the apparently new.

In this session, the curator and researcher of visual culture, Antonio Somaini (Sorbonne Nouvelle), and the Estampa artists collective will reflect on the scope of AI in contemporary visual culture. To do so, various audiovisual pieces by the Estampa collective based on computer vision, generative AI or deepfakes will be screened. They will push the boundaries and uses of these technologies, their roots in various traditions, their socio-economic and ecological context, their non-regulatory uses and how they can be integrated into such fields as experimental cinema.

Antonio Somaini is the curator of the upcoming exhibition at the Jeu de Paume entitled Le monde selon la IA.
