Apiyemiyekî?

"Apiyemiyekî?" is a cinematographic portrait that departs from an archive that Brazilian educator and indigenous rights militant Egydio Schwade found in his house, where over 3 000 drawings made during their first literacy process by the Waimiri-Atroari, a people native to the Brazilian Amazon, are currently kept. The drawings document and construct a collective visual memory from their learning process, perspective and territory while attesting to a series of violent attacks they were submitted to during the military dictatorship in Brazil.

Ana Vaz (1986, Brasilia) is an artist and filmmaker. Trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and at Le Fresnoy - Studio National des Arts Contemporains, Vaz was also a member of the SPEAP (Sciences Po, École des Arts Politiques) project conceived and directed by Bruno Latour. Her work has been screened at Tate Modern (London), Tabakalera, the New York Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and Cinéma du Réel. In 2015 she received the Kazuko Trust Award presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in recognition of the artistic excellence and innovation of her moving-image work.
